Zumwanda Carbon Forest Project

Description

The Zumwanda Chiefdom of the Chewa people in Lumezi district in the Eastern Province of Zambia is faced by massive deforestation induced by the cultivation of tobacco. The Chief has threatened to ban the growing of tobacco in his chiefdom if the environment is not preserved.

Activity

We are working with the chiefdom to promote alternative cropping that is eco-friendly and also helping the ecological restoration planning that will promote forest restoration to benefit the local communities through the generation of carbon credits.
