Summary

Description:
The Chiefdom of Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people in Chipata district in the Eastern Province of Zambia is faced with forest degradation induced by the illegal logging and production of charcoal that feeds the City of Chipata. The Chiefdom is in a dilemma as high unemployment in the area coupled with low income generation during the non-agricultural season leads many people in the illicit production of charcoal with devastating effects on the environment.

Activity:
We are working with the chiefdom to promote economically viable alternatives that are eco-friendly to provide a Just Transition for the charcoal producers and also helping in the ecological restoration planning that will promote forest restoration to benefit the local communities through the generation of
