Chanje Carbon Forest Project:
The Chanje Chiefdom of the Chewa people in Chipangali district in the Eastern Province of Zambia is faced by massive deforestation induced by the cultivation of tobacco. The Chief has threatened to ban the growing of tobacco in his chiefdom if the environment is not preserved. Activity: We are working with the chiefdom to promote alternative cropping programs that are eco-friendly and also helping in the ecological restoration planning that will promote forest restoration to benefit the local communities through the generation of carbon credits. Status of Project: Planning and preparation stage
Zumwanda Carbon Forest Project:
The Zumwanda Chiefdom of the Chewa people in Lumezi district in the Eastern Province of Zambia is faced by massive deforestation induced by the cultivation of tobacco. Shiwa Carbon Forest Project:
The C&J Harvey Farm in Shiwan’gandu district in Muchinga Province of Zambia is a private estate sitting on 9,265 hectares of land. Activity: We are working with the owners of the property as a Carbon Developer and Broker of 5,000 hectares of pristine forest on their land for the generation of carbon credits to diversify their income streams. We will further engage with the local communities around the estate in the program of forest restoration to avoid them encroaching on the property of C&J Harvey Farm in search of wood energy resources and also providing the much needed surveillance of the property. Luangeni Carbon Forest Project:
The Chiefdom of Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people in Chipata district in the Eastern Province of Zambia is faced with forest degradation induced by the illegal logging and production of charcoal that feeds the City of Chipata. The Chiefdom is in a dilemma as high unemployment in the area coupled with low income generation during the non-agricultural season leads many people in the illicit production of charcoal with devastating effects on the environment. Activity: We are working with the chiefdom to promote economically viable alternatives that are eco-friendly to provide a Just Transition for the charcoal producers and also helping in the ecological restoration planning that will promote forest restoration to benefit the local communities through the generation of carbon credits. Madzimawe Carbon Forest Project:
The Madzimawe Chiefdom of the Ngoni people in Kasenegwa district in the Eastern Province of Zambia is faced with forest degradation induced by the illegal logging and production of charcoal that feeds the City of Chipata. The Chiefdom is in a dilemma as high unemployment in the area coupled with low income generation during the non-agricultural season leads many people in the illicit production of charcoal with devastating effects on the environment.
